Development 0.4 - #6
Hello Pandalorians!
Over the past two weeks, I finished writing the scene I was working on and started rendering! This is actually the first time I'm working with a lot of new settings and quite a few updates to the overall rendering process. So far, I really like the resulting renders and the feedback has been great too! I'm looking forward to sharing some sneak peek renders as soon as I've got a bit more done.
Another topic: I'm currently working on a relatively dark scene - and to be honest, I quite like dark scenes in general. Sometimes it can be hard to tell the black tones apart, and on some devices you might just see a black hole, literally. I try to keep every scene bright enough so you can still see what's going on. Despite that, I've added a feature in the options menu that lets you offset or adjust the brightness of all images (check on Patreon/Substar/Discord for comparison shots). What do you think, does this make sense for darker scenes? For bright scenes, you'd have to turn it off again, but it's still better than rendering two different versions: one for people who like them really dark and one for people who want them a bit lighter.
Also, if you're on Discord and didn't notice yet, there's now a commissions channel where I post commissions from everyone who's okay with sharing them publicly.
That's it for today! Have a great week ahead - stay hydrated and stay awesome!

I think gamma adjustment instead of brightness would make more sense. (Ideally there would be both) Gamma logarithmically lifts the dark parts without affecting the bright parts of a scene too much. Meaning the whites wouldn’t be crushed and you don’t have to readjust the slider for the bright scenes.
Hey there, I can't really tell if it would be better, since RenPy doesn't allow for gamma manipulation. I have only a couple of image altering matrices to work with (https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/matrixcolor.html) mainly brightness and contrast. Feel free to correct me here :)
Hmmm, don’t know why they wouldn’t include that as a standard transform. Not sure if this is just hidden away somewhere but apparently a renpy-dev made a shader function for gamma correction. Hope that helps.
That looks promising indeed, thank you very much! Might change the functionality if that turns out to work even better with the renders! :D
Yeah, I think a brightness toggle makes sense, and it's faster development-wise than making multiple versions of the same scene in this case.
Yes, absolutely! It would bloat up the game by a good margin if I had to create brighter images for every dark scene :)
Always happy to hear from you panda :D
Thank you, likewise :)
