Development 0.4 - #1
Hey everybody!
Time for the first development log for 0.4! I'm excited - it took me quite some time to get this status report render done, but I think it turned out pretty good!
Here’s what I’ve been working on over the past few weeks since the release of 0.3: I’ve reworked all the characters to be compatible with the new shader I posted about a few weeks ago! I still need to adjust most of the existing maps to work with it, but in the end, it’ll be worth it. Those soft shadows are looking great, if you ask me. Hopefully, this also means less post-rendering cleanup - which is always a win. I'm also dropping some small fixes for 0.3.2 here and there, if I get some reports in.
Writing is going smoothly, and planning is done. I’ve currently got 8 scenes lined up, some big, some small. I'm aiming to keep things a bit more compact so I can release the update quicker, just as I mentioned in earlier development logs.
That’s all for today! Just a quick and short update. Nothing major to share, except that I’m super thankful for your support and your overall awesomeness! =D

I have a question for the next update! How can I download it and have my progress saved?
Hey there, I did some research on this because I already got asked about android saves in specific.
On PC, it's fairly easy, you just need to make sure you keep your save files which are stored in:
%appdata%/RenPy/BetweenHumanity-1679746291
On android, I've done everything on the RenPy side that is necessary to store the saves and automatically detect them again.
The saves are stored in:
/Android/data/com.dbpanda.betweenhumanity/files/game/saves
If you delete the game and all it's data on an android phone, it will of course delete the saves as well. I'm not sure if you can delete the game and retain the data. But as far as your question goes, if you store the save files separately, you'll never loose them. Just make sure to back them up if you switch phones or PCs. :)

Thank you! :) Third time I'm correcting you xD. It's not Michael who's holding a gun, but some random buffed dude with scars on the back! I agree it might be not easy to notice but Jade is talking to the MC (which is the pov) during this shot.

Oh, by the way, before I forget, I meant to tell you this a while ago: I don't know if you recall this, but a couple weeks ago I told you that I would try to contact DeadBrokenMind, to ask him if he would want to upload Between Humanity's soundtrack to his channel. I left a comment on his most recent community post, and got no response. So, that was a dud. But, I'll keep trying to reach him! Because, at least in my opinion, DeadBrokenMind is the face of most AVNs on YouTube. His videos make the names of the games easy to find, and also boost their popularity because, well, people like music, lol.
I mean, even Eternum, which is so popular it's one of the most top rated games on all of itch.io, would have it's popularity shrunken to a dehydrated fraction of what it currently is if DeadBrokenMind's channel suddenly disappeared one day. So, I think it'd do a lot for Between Humanity if DeadBrokenMind took an interest to it, and uploaded it's music to his channel! So, I'm gonna keep trying to reach him, probably through comments or mentioning him in my own community posts, and hope he responds! 🤞

As for DeadBrokenMind, I won't bother him if he makes it clear he's not interested, but right now it could just as likely be that he simply didn't see my comment. So, I'll keep trying to reach him until it's more clear. Thanks for giving me the green light to try this! :)
I've literally *just* hit the end of content on 0.3.2 at 3:30 AM, having been playing it all day on and off. I just wanted to say that it is without a shadow of a doubt the best "adult" VN I have ever played, and that's almost entirely down to the fantastic writing, and frankly the way that there really isn't much sexual content. This feels like a beautifully written story first, with a small and appropriate amount of adult content to keep things interesting, without being all about the sex.
Thank you for your amazing work, and I very much look forward to playing through more of it as soon as it's ready.
I agree. Although I still consider Eternum to be my favorite AVN, I will also admit a lot of that could just be nostalgia. Between Humanity has a much more creative story, with much better pacing, and a more enjoyable world. The way it values a slow burn over jumping into the action right away is nice, and it flows much more smoothly in general. I agree with you 100%!
I have yet to play that, but it is on my to-play list, and even downloaded already. Thanks for the recommendation.
