Development 0.4 - #15

Hello Pandalorians!
I hope you're all doing well and having a great week so far! Time for another development update. :)
I'm currently working on another large scene, where I finished already 2/3 of the contents. It's the one with the mini-game I mentioned during the last dev log! So far it turned out pretty nice, I rewrote a couple minor things here and there but I'm content with it so far. I also managed to finish a smooth animation over the past three days while also working on another commission! So far the past days have been very productive which has been great overall.
Since I'm now sitting at roughly the 50% mark for finished renders, I'll start posting sneak peeks beginning next weekend. I'll try not to spoil too much, of course, but if you're interested in which girls will appear and if you want to see what I've been working on, I gotcha covered! If you don't want to be spoiled, avoid those posts, though!
I'll keep it short today since I want to squeeze in a few more renders before calling it a day. I'm at roughly ~750 renders at the moment, a couple animations, though the H-scene animations are still on the to-do list.
Stay warm out there! It's pretty chilly here in Europe. Thankfully the heater (and my PC) are doing their best to keep me from freezing. :D

PS: A little side question, since I'm replaying a bigger AVN at the moment. What are your thoughts on small movements between renders compared to, let's say, just mouth-open/mouth-closed shots for dialogue? Is that something you'd like to see, or should I reduce my workload in that area? (If you don't know what I'm talking about it's probably a vote for reducing the workload :D)

And related to animation, the mouth movement shouldn't much matter.
Better to just have animation when it really matters, like someone touching the others cheek or pointing, holding them, etc.
IDC how long it takes but this is GOLD so I'll wait for this masterpiece to finish before I buy it fully

I'm off two minds about the additional renders. While I do like having the extras renders, for me it's always been more helpful in less captivating games. When the story has me locked in, I barely notice the transition renders.
In your case, I'd never notice the fewer renders. I'm locked in on this story.
Happy to hear! It really is minor sometimes, so I get why people would notice them less often since the story plays in the lower area of the screen :D but the eye notices them still.
That is absolutely correct about the fact that some people will often not notice fewer renders. But the only time I do NOT notice each detail of what happens on the screen is when the story below is so badly written, that my brain spends it's time trying to correct it. That is NEVER a problem with your game. I WILL notice fewer renders, but whether the fewer renders turn out to be significant remains to be seen. I suspect I will get over it, because for me, the story is by far, the most important thing.

Sadly, I know exactly what you are talking about, and why (in your PS). I can understand wanting to reduce your workload which I can already tell, has been a LOT. I have played a lot of games, and analyzed most of them. That is why I know how much work this has been. I would just hate to see you compromise the quality that you have now. I can also relate to how exhausting this all is. For that reason, I really want to tell you to reduce your workload. I just hope I am not sorry for saying that. I am patient, but most players are not. Many want quantity over quality (or both which is unrealistic). From what I have seen a "bigger" AVN is often bigger, because they have learned to cut more corners. That is not always true but sadly, more often than not.
Thank you! Yeah, a lot of people don't know how much effort this is and how long we sometimes sit at just one render :D especially when it's a new scene. I'll definitely not trying to compromise anything drastically, that'd would my inner self not allow anyway. Yeah bigger AVNs with quicker updates are either cutting corners visually, outsourcing story/animations or just go for a fully kinetic approach and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, don't get me wrong. I will just try to give a comparison on the movement approach in BH which people can see for themselves with 0.4 and 0.5 for example. To be decided!
It's always good to hear from you Panda. ๐๐ And regarding your question about mouth opening and closing are you by any chance talking about adding animations to them like they are talking?? Yeah, I've played one that actually has that feature. It's cool but really on a serious note if it doesn't have voice acting, on my end it just looks weird but at the same time it does give them life as if they are talking to you.
I mean if you wanna experiment with it I am always down for some new stuff. Anyways stay healthy and Godspeed always fam. ๐ซก๐ซก
Hey there Yami! Not entirely, I was talking about small body movements between renders, like not only having 2 renders with an open mouth and another one with a closed mouth for a character MC is talking to, but give more immersive renders. I know it's not a 3D game where everything is animated, but giving the feeling like it is via 2D renders might be a nice idea overall. I'm already doing it since 0.1, increasing the effects with each update by now as well. You'.ll see in 0.4 and in 0.5 I might reduce it to give out more comparison! :)
Ahhh okay, I think I get what you are saying now. Either way I'm excited for whatever you have in store for us. You have no complaints from me fam. ๐๐ And it's always nice to experiment every now and then. So I hope everything goes well in the end and it meets your expectations.

The development of the update is still ongoing. It's going to be pretty big, right? And if I understood correctly about the question regarding mouth opening and closing, I think it's going to look cooler. Sometimes the character just looks at you and says something… creepy? Haha. I'm inspired by your game, buddy, and one more question โ will the game be released to the general public immediately, or will it be first for Booster and Patreon subscribers? Good luck to you <3
I haven't played the last couple of patches, unfortunately, I guess? But I'm still looking forward to it, all the characters are wonderful.

Hey! 0.4 will definitely not be a small update, I'd say normal size. I'm not working on it full time and sometimes I just have less free time to work on it unfortunately. It's more about small body movements instead of creepy gazes, hehe. I'll definitely add the latter one in any cases! The new version will be going live for Patrons first as usual, otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to make a living of it in the long run and having to work two jobs is stressful :D
Alright then, good luck finishing this game quickly. I'm looking forward to it.
